Australia Prayer Letter: Rev. Ed and Lehia Paauwe
Posted on Jun 13, 2012
Dear Friends and Prayer Partners,
The Psalmist says, “The days of our years are threescore years and ten; and if by reason of strength they be fourscore years, yet is their strength labour and sorrow; for it is soon cut off, and we fly away” (Psalm 90:10).
This is the year that both of us turn the biblical “threescore years and ten,” and we believe it is time for us to turn the day by day ministry of Covenant B-P Church and Covenant Bible Institute over to a younger person. We believe the Lord would have us retire at the age of 70, and He has provided someone to take our place. We praise the Lord that Mr. Mark Chen, who has been serving the Lord full-time at Life B-P Church, Singapore, for the past ten years, is willing to come to Perth, Western Australia. Please pray for Mark, his wife Hui Min, and their son Nathan, as Mark prepares for his ordination examination on July 30th, and as he is applying for permanent residency in Australia.
Lord willing, the Mark Chen family will come to Perth towards the end of the year so that we can have several months of overlapping in the ministry. This will help Mark to get settled into the ministry of Covenant Bible-Presbyterian Church and Covenant Bible Institute.
Our plans are to move to Adelaide, South Australia, in January 2013. Also, we are planning to visit our supporting churches in the USA, as well as individual supporters, in February, March, and early April 2013. Please pray that the Lord will provide the necessary funds for us to do so. The airfare is $4,500.00; additional funds will be needed for travel insurance, car rental, etc.
In the meantime, the Lord’s work in Perth is progressing. We praise the Lord for His blessings and mercies as we share with you several highlights of the past few months.
On Good Friday, Covenant B-P Church held a combined worship service with Attadale Baptist Church. This is the church that has kindly made their facilities available for us on Sunday afternoons for Worship Service, Sunday School, and an Adult Bible Class; Wednesday evenings for Bible Institute class and Prayer Meeting; and Friday evenings for Fellowship meetings. We thank God for a good relationship with Attadale Baptist Church. Rev. Ed Paauwe preached the gospel at the Good Friday service, while Mrs. Lehia Paauwe organized a special program for the children. The Covenant B-P Church Choir sang two songs of praise to the Lord.
On Easter Sunday, the Church Choir sang another song of praise and Rev. Ed Paauwe preached a sermon entitled, “Christ is Risen” (Mark 16:1-16). The weekly sermons of Covenant B-P Church can be downloaded from the church website: www.covenantbpc.org.au.
Covenant B-P Church’s Third Family Bible Conference was held immediately after Easter, April 9-12, 2012, at Forté Mandurah Quay Resort, about 45 minutes south of Perth. The theme was “Be Fruitful in Every Good Work” (Colossians 1:10). We thank God for the main speaker, Mr. Mark Chen, for Rev. Edward Paauwe, who brought the daily devotional messages, and for the Bible Conference Committee as they faithfully labored to make this year’s Bible Conference a blessing to all who attended. Praise the Lord for excellent messages, good discussions, and warm fellowship. The feedback has been very positive: the facilities were excellent, the meals tasty and plentiful, and the weather very pleasant. The children’s meetings, under the care of Mrs. Lehia Paauwe and her helpers, were a blessing with attendance varying from 12 to 17. Total attendance for the Bible Conference was more than 70 adults and children.
On April 29th, Covenant B-P Church celebrated her 2nd Anniversary with a special Thanksgiving Service and Fellowship Dinner. The Children’s Choir sang a song of praise, a couple immigrated to Australia from Sri Lanka became members of the church, and Rev. Ed Paauwe preached on Thanksgiving at the Anniversary Service. The Fellowship Dinner was a 7-course Chinese meal. Mr. Mark Chen brought an encouraging message on Psalm 133—“Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity!” We truly praise and thank the Lord for His blessings.
As we look to the immediate future, please continue to pray that the Lord will give us good health and strength to serve Him. Ed is planning to go to Singapore, July 27-31 for Mr. Mark Chen’s ordination examination. Lord willing, Mark’s ordination will be held in Singapore on September 16th, and Ed has been invited to preach the sermon at the ordination, which will be held at Life B-P Church.
The ministry here in Perth continues from day to day—preaching, teaching, visitation, counseling, etc. The Bible Institute students are studying the doctrine of salvation (Soteriology), after which they will study the doctrine of the church (Ecclesiology).
Thank you very much for your faithful prayers and kind support for this work of proclaiming the gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ and building up the faith of the believers. “Brethren, pray for us, that the word of the Lord may have free course, and be glorified, even as it is with you” (2 Thess. 3:1).
With Christian love and prayers,
Edward and Lehia Paauwe
