2018 Jan-Feb Banner Article: Meet the Next Field Director by Dr. Len Pine

Posted on Feb 8, 2018

Change is inevitable in life, and as you know, changes are happening here at PMU, including hiring a new Field Director upon my retirement from that position in August of 2019.  I am very pleased to introduce the man who will be taking PMU through future changes as the next Field Director. Rev. Casey Southerland is well suited for the job.  Born and raised in Cincinnati, Ohio, where he came to Christ at the Great Lakes Presbytery camp at age 10, Rev. Southerland continues to serve at his home church, Grace Bible Presbyterian Church, Cincinnati, OH, as the Assistant Pastor. His focus there is helping families raise godly children.  He will not be leaving that ministry behind in 2019, but with the church’s blessing he will split his ministry between Grace and PMU.

Having graduated from Clearwater Christian College with a Bachelor of Science degree in Church Ministries, and from Reformed Presbyterian Theological Seminary with a Master of Divinity degree, Rev. Southerland has been well trained to lead PMU from an academic and theoretical perspective. But his skills are more than theoretical.  Besides his years serving as Assistant Pastor of Children and Youth Ministries at Grace, Activities Director for Ridgecrest Community Services, and Youth Leader at Wilson BPC, Rev. Southerland has also led many mission’s teams and ministry groups.  From leading PMU’s Team Timothy Knoxville in 2002 to leading “local” mission and work teams designed to reach the community and the world (most recently he has been ministering in Haiti with a team from the church), he finds his greatest joy in ministry when focused on reaching the lost alongside other believers. For many years he has done an incredible job organizing camps and retreats for Great Lakes Presbytery young people. Humility and graciousness are hallmarks of his life’s work. Ministries such as VBS, mission trips, work teams, and camps have prepared him well for his new role of Field Director.

With a passion to know the living and true God and His love, grace, and shepherding more deeply, Rev. Southerland also enjoys time with his wife and family, hiking, camping, or boating.  He loves adventures that show him more of God’s wondrous creation.

Marrying his childhood friend, Kelly, in 1996, Rev. Southerland has been blessed with a family of six children:  [Pictured below, from left to right:] Kelsey, Cody, Julia, Lucas, Micah and Madison (age 6-19).

Please add the Southerland family to your prayer list, as Rev. Southerland begins to train for this position, and please consider supporting Rev. Southerland as the next Field Director of PMU.  PMU is now accepting donations for this vital position.  By beginning to receive funds now, we trust Rev. Southerland’s support account will be ready to provide the financial support he needs in 2019 to focus on the PMU ministry.  Thank you for your consideration of this ministry and for your prayers, which are vital to us all.
