One of the blessings of the King’s service is the joy of fellowship with faithful laborers who join in the work with enthusiasm and energy to accomplish much for the Kingdom. That joy is magnified when we have the opportunity to recognize those labors and glorify the Lord who enables His people to do as well as to be.

In a missionary sending agency, naturally, much attention goes to those who labor on the fields we serve. Missionaries are often the heroes of the faith, rightly so in many respects, but those who stand in support of the frontline battles are no less important to the campaign. 1 Samuel 30:24 reads in part, “…as his part is that goes down to the battle, so shall his part be that tarries by the stuff: they shall part alike.” PMU’s Missions Council members are in that latter category, guarding and administrating the supplies that are so necessary for the battle to be waged effectively.

This month we recognize two such faithful men who have reached milestones in their service on the Council. First, Rev. Tito Lyro, pastor of the Olympia Bible Presbyterian Church in Olympia, Washington, has now served on the Council for fifteen years. He’s been elected as President for three terms, and has been a member of the Executive Committee for many years now. In addition to the heavy ministry load he carries as Olympia’s pastor, Washington State legislature chaplain, and Western Reformed Seminary President, he carries on his duties with PMU with not only wisdom, but with characteristic integrity and energy. We praise God for laying the burden of missions service on Pastor Tito’s heart.

Secondly, we are equally thankful for the tenacious engagement of Rev. Steve Brinegar in the fight. Pastor Steve has now served with PMU for five years, and his financial knowledge, practical outlook, and personal integrity all make a big contribution to the cause of missions in the Bible Presbyterian Church, General Synod. Pastor Steve shepherds the Grace BPC in Cape Canaveral, Florida, is the denomination’s Synod Clerk, and also serves on the WRS Board, currently as the Board President. We look forward to many more years of his faithful service with PMU.

We would be remiss not to mention with gratitude the support that both of these men receive from their congregations, who sacrifice time that their pastors otherwise would spend on the local level for the sake of the larger work of missions around the world through the denomination. Thank you!

Please rejoice with us at the Lord’s providence in giving us these men, and the others on the Council, and do keep them in prayer regularly.

Dr. Leonard Pine, Field Director
